Assistant Professor Applicants at Kashmir University Urge LG and CM to Delay Interview Process Amid Alleged Bias
Srinagar, November 7: Applicants for Assistant Professor positions at the University of Kashmir have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to “immediately put a halt” to upcoming interviews scheduled by the university. The applicants raised concerns about potential favoritism, noting that the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure is nearing its end.
A delegation of applicants shared with that the university’s recruitment section has “hastily” arranged interviews for open Assistant Professor positions across various departments, set to take place from November 11 to November 14, 2024. According to the applicants, the timing of these interviews is “both unethical and illegal,” given the Vice-Chancellor’s impending departure.
“These interviews should have been conducted much earlier. Holding them now, at the close of the VC’s tenure, raises serious concerns about fairness,” they stated. The applicants have requested the LG, who serves as the Chancellor of the university, to intervene and direct the Vice-Chancellor to “halt the interview process immediately.”
The delegation has also called on former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the university’s Pro-Chancellor, to address their concerns, pointing to fears of favoritism.
