Ganderbal Police Apprehend Drug Peddler in Kangan, Seize Contraband at Naka Checkpoint
Kangan, November 7: In a concerted effort to eliminate drug-related activities and protect the community from the harmful effects of substance abuse, J&K Police in Ganderbal District arrested a drug peddler in Kangan. The operation, conducted by the Police Station (PS) Kangan, led to the recovery of a contraband substance and further reinforced the police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace.
According to a press release issued to QNSTv, a police team from PS Kangan, under the leadership of SHO Manzoor Ahmad, set up a checkpoint (Naka) at Hayan Bridge to monitor and deter unlawful activities. During the checkpoint operation, officers stopped a man identified as Ghulam Qadir Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir and a resident of Cherwan Kangan. Mir was traveling on a scooter with registration number JK16B4790, moving from Kangan towards Mamar.
Upon conducting a personal search, the police discovered a quantity of poppy straw, a banned substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in Mir’s possession. The contraband was seized on the spot, and Mir was taken into custody. Additionally, the scooter he was riding was impounded.
The police registered a case under FIR No. 81/2024 at PS Kangan in accordance with the NDPS Act, and an investigation has been launched to further probe the incident and uncover any possible connections within the local drug network.
Ganderbal Police have reiterated their appeal to the community, especially the youth, to stay away from drug peddling and consumption. The department emphasized its dedication to creating a safer, drug-free society and invited community support in its ongoing anti-drug initiatives.
The police assured the public that operations to curb drug trafficking will continue as part of their broader mission to promote a healthy and safe environment in the region.
