“Respect Tradition: Maqdoom Sahib (RA) Shrine’s Mujawirs Must Be Reinstated,” Demands MLA Zadibal Amid Window Row
“It’s only a matter of time before all these unilateral decisions and acts of religious interference are undone,” says MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq.
Shrine of Maqdoom Sahib (RA), Srinagar, November 7: The recent decision by the Auqaf to instruct Mujawirs, or shrine caretakers, at the Maqdoom Sahib (RA) shrine to vacate their long-held positions at the windows has ignited strong opposition. These seats have been an heirloom passed down through lgenerations, symbolizing an enduring connection to the shrine’s rich spiritual legacy.
MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has voiced his disapproval, describing the move as “a blatant disregard for tradition” and calling for the immediate reinstatement of the Mujawirs. “It’s only a matter of time before these unilateral decisions and acts of religious interference are undone,” he stated. The MLA emphasized the importance of preserving these customs for the shrine’s heritage and management.
The Maqdoom Sahib (RA) shrine, a historic site atop Hari Parbat Hill in Srinagar, holds immense cultural and religious significance, drawing visitors across faiths year-round. Dedicated to Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom, known as Makhdoom Sahib or Mehboob-ul-Alam, the shrine embodies Mughal architectural style with its majestic, many-pillared structure. The Mujawirs have traditionally occupied specific seats within the shrine, contributing to its sacred environment and daily operations.
