Jammu, October 19 (QNS):Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah dismissed the long-standing label of the National Conference (NC) being a “Muslim party,” highlighting that his party appointed a Hindu Deputy Chief Minister from Jammu.

Speaking to party workers in Jammu for the first time since assuming office, Abdullah stated, “Everyone said NC was a party for Muslims and Kashmiris, and that Jammu would be left out. But we made a Deputy CM from Jammu who is Hindu. What will those critics say now?”

He also rejected claims that NC only caters to Kashmir, emphasizing his government’s commitment to serve all citizens across Jammu and Kashmir. “This government is for everyone. If we serve, we will serve all the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The NC-Congress alliance won the J-K assembly elections, the first since the abrogation of Article 370, with NC securing 42 seats and Congress winning six. Omar Abdullah became the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory, with Surinder Kumar Choudhary, a Hindu from Jammu, sworn in as his deputy.

Abdullah also spoke about the attempts made over the last decade to weaken the NC, stating that threats and conspiracies failed to break the party. He praised his party’s resilience, attributing its strength to “Allah, Bhagwan, Waheguru, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

He further lauded independent MLAs who joined his government without any conditions, assuring that the voices of the people would now be heard. “Your voices will no longer disappear into the darkness,” Abdullah vowed.(QNS)
