‘5136 capsules recovered, consignment was on way from Jammu, more arrests likely’

Sopore, Jan 22 : Three persons were arrested along with a huge consignment of drugs in north Kashmir’s Sopore, police said on Monday.

Sub Divisional Police Officer Sopore, Dr Raies Ahmed Mir as per the news agency— said that on 11 January, a naka was established at railway crossing, following which a truck was interrupted.

He said that during checking 5136 capsules of Spasmoproxivon plus were recovered from a bag and during investigation the driver disclosed his identity as Rameez Wali Rather son of Wali Mohammed Rather of Kralgund Handwara.

“During his further disclosure, it came to fore that he had given the consignment to Shahnawaz Ahmed Shah of Dangerpora Sopore. Shah was arrested in a swift action by the police with 744 Spasmoproxivon plus capsules,” he said.

He added that upon questioning, he disclosed that he has given some quantity to Shabir Ahmed son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Kralgund Handwara, who was apprehended from Dangerpora village along with 792 Spasmoproxivon plus capsules.

He further said that a case in this regard under FIR number 04/2024 under section 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Amargrah and further investigations are going on.

“We are intensifying efforts to combat drug-related crimes with a comprehensive approach, involving strict law enforcement measures and community engagement”, he said.

Meanwhile, two drug peddlers were arrested along with Spasmoproxivon plus tablets and Codeine Phosphate by PP Fruit Mandi, a police spokesperson said.

He said that on a specific input, a police party headed by I/C PP Fruit Mandi, Sub Inspector Bilal Rashid intercepted a Maruti Swift car bearing registration number JK01AU-3674 in which two persons were on board.

During checking, the party managed to recover 112 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon plus and 11 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the car. Both the accused were arrested on the spot, he said.

The duo were identified as Umer Rashid Shalla son of Abdul Rashid Shalla and Adnan Manzoor Antoo son of Manzoor Ahmad Antoo—both the residents of Sidiq Colony Sopore.

Meanwhile, a case under FIR number 18/2024 under section 8/21, 22, 29 of NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Sopore and further investigations are on—(KNO)
