The issue of private schools conducting interviews for admissions to pre-nursery, nursery, and LKG classes has sparked widespread concern among parents in Kashmir. Many believe these interviews impose undue pressure on children and their families, calling the practice both unnecessary and counterproductive.

Parents have been vocal about their grievances, urging the government to take immediate steps to ensure a fair and transparent admission process for young learners. Speaking to Gulistan News, Director of School Education Kashmir, Dr. Tassaduq Hussain, addressed these concerns, stating that such interviews are explicitly prohibited under the National Education Policy (NEP).

“Interviews with children for admissions are not allowed under the NEP,” clarified Dr. Tassaduq. “If any schools are conducting such practices, they are likely interacting with parents instead. However, we will discuss this matter in a meeting and issue formal directions to ensure compliance with the policy.”

This assurance has brought some relief to parents who had expressed frustration over the lack of uniformity in admission practices. Parents argue that a stress-free and child-friendly approach is essential for fostering a positive foundation for young students.

The Director’s statement signals the Education Department’s intent to take concrete action against such practices. It is anticipated that formal instructions will soon be issued to private institutions, ensuring the admission process aligns with NEP guidelines.

Parents across Kashmir are hopeful that the government’s intervention will bring an end to this contentious practice, promoting an equitable and pressure-free educational environment for children.
