November 26, Srinagar – In a commendable initiative to enhance road safety, the Srinagar Traffic Police launched a campaign to distribute free helmets to children traveling with their parents on two-wheelers. The gesture, aimed at protecting young passengers and raising awareness about helmet safety, has been widely appreciated across the district.
Traffic officers were seen handing out helmets at Moulana Azad Road Srinagar, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding young riders who are particularly vulnerable in case of road accidents. “This distribution is part of a broader strategy to promote awareness about wearing helmets and ensuring the safety of all passengers, especially children,” a traffic officer stated.
The initiative also aims to alleviate the financial burden on families, particularly those from lower-income groups, by providing helmets free of cost. “By offering helmets for free, we are encouraging parents to prioritize safety without worrying about additional expenses,” the officer added.
Balanced Enforcement for Non-J&K Vehicles
In addition to the helmet campaign, the Srinagar Traffic Police clarified their approach toward non-J&K registered vehicles. Dispelling fears of indiscriminate seizure, the department stated that such vehicles would only be targeted if their drivers were habitual offenders or repeat traffic law violators.
“The decision to focus on habitual offenders rather than penalizing all non-local vehicles demonstrates a balanced and fair enforcement policy,” said Imtiyaz Ahmed, a traffic official. This approach aims to ease concerns of locals and visitors while ensuring adherence to traffic rules.
Public Reception
Parents and citizens across Srinagar have lauded the traffic police for this thoughtful and proactive step. Many appreciated the department’s dual focus on promoting road safety and fostering goodwill among residents and visitors alike.
“This initiative not only protects our children but also sends a strong message about the importance of safety on the roads,” said a local parent who received a helmet for their child.
The helmet distribution campaign reflects the Srinagar Traffic Police’s commitment to creating safer roads while addressing public concerns through fair and measured enforcement. Their gesture has been celebrated as a model of community-focused policing, combining safety, fairness, and goodwill.
