Srinagar Police Arrest Shabir Mir & Murtaza Iqbal, Recover Brown Sugar in Anti-Drug Drive

Srinagar, November 26: In a continued effort to combat the drug menace, Srinagar Police arrested two chronic drug peddlers during a naka checking operation on 90 Feet Road near Matoo Steel. The operation led to the recovery of contraband substances and the seizure of vehicles used in the crime.
Two vehicles — a Scooty (registration No. JK01AN-6945) and a Zen car (registration No. JK01H-5675) — were intercepted as they traveled from Awantabawan toward Elahibagh. Upon searching the Zen car, 10 grams of brown sugar were recovered from the driver, identified as Shabir Ahmed Mir, son of Gh. Qadir, a resident of Bilal Colony, Soura. Similarly, 6 grams of brown sugar-like substance were recovered from the Scooty rider, Shah Murtaza Iqbal, son of Mohd Iqbal Shah, also a resident of Bilal Colony, Soura.
Both individuals, identified as habitual drug peddlers actively involved in selling illegal substances to youth in Srinagar, particularly in the Soura area, were arrested and remain in custody. Their vehicles were seized, and a case under FIR No. 90/2024 has been registered at Police Station Soura. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links to drug networks.
The police have urged community members to report any drug-related activities in their neighborhoods, reiterating their commitment to strict action against those involved in drug peddling. This proactive approach reflects the police’s dedication to creating a safer, drug-free environment for the citizens of Srinagar.
