Income Tax Department Conducts Raid at Former Deputy Mayor’s Residence in Srinagar
The Income Tax Department launched a nocturnal raid at the residence of Sheikh Mohammad Imran, the former Deputy Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), on Saturday evening.
The operation, reportedly linked to allegations of tax evasion, began in the evening and was still ongoing at the time of this report. Officials were seen thoroughly searching the premises, but no official statement has been issued by the Income Tax Department regarding the findings or the specifics of the investigation.
Sheikh Mohammad Imran recently contested the assembly elections from the Khanyar constituency in Srinagar. This is not the first time he has been under scrutiny for financial matters:
June 2019: The Income Tax Department conducted searches at his private offices in Srinagar, Bengaluru, and Delhi, investigating alleged irregularities related to his business group, Kehwa Group.
December 2019: The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested him in connection with a bank fraud case.
These incidents have raised questions about financial transparency and accountability among public figures in the region. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
