Upper Reaches of Gurez Valley Covered in Fresh Snowfall
Bandipora, Nov 11– The mesmerizing Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district was greeted with fresh snowfall on Monday, creating a spectacular winter scenery across its upper reaches. Kilshay Top, Tulail, and several nearby villages were among the areas draped in a fresh coat of snow, marking the beginning of the winter season in the region.
This snowfall aligns with the forecast issued by the Meteorological (MET) department, which had predicted light snowfall and rain due to a weak Western Disturbance currently affecting Jammu and Kashmir. The disturbance is expected to bring light precipitation across various parts of the Union Territory, with snowfall and rain anticipated to continue until early on November 12.
In light of this weather development, the MET department issued an advisory predicting heavy to very heavy snowfall in the high-altitude areas of the Kashmir division, particularly over the Gurez Valley, over the next three days. The advisory also mentioned the possibility of light rain showers across Kashmir’s plains on November 11.
Other prominent areas likely to experience snowfall in the coming days include Razdan Top, Sinthan Top, Peer Ki Gali, the second phase of Gulmarg, and the higher elevations of Pahalgam and Sonamarg. These early snowfalls are expected to add to Kashmir’s winter charm, attracting visitors and marking the onset of the valley’s snow season.—
