AIP Extends Conditional Support to NC’s Special Status Resolution, Highlights Ambiguity
In a recent legislative session, AIP Senior Leader and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed offered conditional support to the National Conference’s (NC) resolution aimed at restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. Sheikh Khursheed’s support comes with reservations, as the resolution omits direct references to Article 370 and Article 35A—central provisions tied to J&K’s autonomy.
Sheikh Khursheed emphasized that AIP firmly advocates for restoring Article 370 and regards Article 35A as essential. He criticized the resolution as a “half-hearted” step, failing to meet the commitments of NC, PDP, and other political organizations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The people of J&K deserve a clear and resolute commitment to restoring Article 370 and 35A,” he stated, urging political parties to fulfill promises for protecting the region’s identity and rights.
