“RDD Withholds Salaries of 35 BDOs For Non-Compliance & Delayed Wage Payments”
This recent development highlights the Rural Development Department’s (RDD) commitment to upholding transparency and accountability within the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Jammu and Kashmir. By withholding the salaries of 35 underperforming Block Development Officers (BDOs), the RDD aims to push for improvements in critical areas such as real-time monitoring through the Area Officer App and prompt wage disbursement to workers.
The findings underscore specific shortcomings, with certain blocks like Sogam, Wavoora, Mandli, and Chasana showing zero progress in utilizing the app. Meanwhile, other blocks, including Magam and Panthal, had marginal progress. Additionally, delayed wage payments—some exceeding the 15-day threshold—highlight another pressing issue in blocks like Baggan and Arnia, which registered delays of 49% and 46%, respectively.
This action reflects the department’s focus on driving performance improvements, aligning with MGNREGA’s goal to ensure timely and fair compensation for rural laborers.
