Gulmarg Terror Attack: Gondola Ropeway Temporarily Closed for Safety
Srinagar, Oct 25 : In response to Thursday’s terror attack that claimed the lives of two soldiers and two porters near Gulmarg, authorities have temporarily shut down the Gondola ropeway service in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The shutdown is a precautionary measure to safeguard tourists and staff, officials announced on Friday.
The attack occurred around six kilometers from Gulmarg, a popular tourist destination, where terrorists targeted an Army vehicle. Another porter and a soldier were injured in the incident.
“The Gondola cable car project in Gulmarg’s Bota Pathri sector has been temporarily closed following Thursday’s terror attack. The shutdown is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of tourists and staff,” officials stated.
Known for its scenic views and mountain experiences, the Gulmarg Gondola is expected to resume operations once a thorough security assessment is complete.
The Gondola is the second longest and second highest cable car service in the world, spanning two stages. The first stage ferries passengers from Gulmarg at 8,694 feet to Kongdoori station, while the second lift ascends to 13,058 feet near the Apharwat peak. Local authorities and security agencies continue to monitor the situation closely.
