Srinagar, Oct 21 (QNS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a Patwari from Halqa Mujagund, Srinagar, for accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe. The arrest followed a sting operation after a written complaint was filed.
According to a statement provided to Quick News Service (QNS), the Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint that Ruman Qayoom, the Patwari in question, was demanding Rs 1 lakh for registering land documents and issuing revenue extracts for a 2-kanal land purchase.
The complainant negotiated the bribe down to Rs 50,000 as an initial payment, with the remaining amount to be paid later. However, unwilling to follow through with the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB for action against Qayoom.
Upon verifying the allegations, the ACB registered a case under FIR number 22/2024 and organized a trap operation. The trap successfully caught Qayoom red-handed as he accepted the bribe. He was immediately taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.(QNS)
