Budgam, October 21: The son of Dr. Shahnawaz Dar, one of the seven victims of the Gagangir terror attack, has expressed deep sorrow over his father’s death, stating that his father’s dream for him to become a doctor has now been shattered.
Speaking in Budgam, Mohsin Shahnawaz Dar said, “My father, Dr. Shahnawaz Dar, was an honest and respected man in this area. He wanted me to become a doctor, but I aspired to become an IAS officer. My grandfather, who was a Police Inspector, had faith in me that I would achieve that goal.”
He added, “My father was determined to do everything possible to help me become an IAS officer. But after hearing the news of his death, my dreams have been shattered. Now, I must take care of my family. I request the administration to help me achieve my dream.”
Dr. Dar, along with a designer named Sushant Abrol and six laborers, was killed in a terrorist attack on a tunnel construction site along the Srinagar-Leh national highway in the Ganderbal district on Sunday. The attack occurred as the workers and staff were returning to their camp in Gund, Ganderbal, late in the evening.
National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah strongly condemned the attack and blamed Pakistan for its involvement, saying, “This attack is deeply unfortunate. Poor migrant laborers and a doctor lost their lives. What do the terrorists hope to gain from this? Do they believe they can create Pakistan here? We need to put an end to this misery and move forward.”
Abdullah also called on Pakistan’s leadership to end terrorism if they seek peaceful relations with India. He stated, “I want to tell Pakistan’s leadership that if they desire good relations with India, they must stop terrorism. ‘Kashmir will not become Pakistan.’ Let us live with dignity and succeed. They couldn’t create Pakistan in 75 years; how will they now? It’s time to end terrorism, or the consequences will be severe.”
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has dispatched a team, led by a senior officer, to the site of the terror attack in Gagangir to investigate the incident further. A Superintendent of Police from the agency’s regional branch in the Union Territory will lead the team, expected to arrive by noon.
This attack is a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in the region, leaving families devastated and communities in mourning.
