News Regarding: COVID-19 vaccines for children between 2-18 years

COVID-19 vaccines for children between 2-18 years may become available in India by October

COVID-19 vaccines for children in the age group of 2-18 years may become available in India by October. Director of National Institute of Virology – NIV in Pune, Ms. Priya Abraham has said that results of phase 2 and 3 trials of Covaxin in children will soon be presented to the regulator while Zydus Cadila’s vaccine is also in the pipeline.

It is worth to note that it was NIV that isolated the coronavirus strain and gave it to Bharat Biotech International Limited in April 2020, following which they developed a whole virion-inactivated vaccine, COVAXIN. The Pune based institute also conducted the preclinical trials and helped with the clinical trails in terms of diagnostics and laboratory support.
